Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Be recognised for the career skills you've learned on and off the job.

What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition of knowledge and skills from life, work experience, or any type of training you may have previously undertaken. RPL has the potential to reduce the time it takes to get your qualification—or you may not need to study at all. RPL can also provide a pathway to higher qualifications.

If you have 2 or more years of recent industry experience in any of the following, you may be able to gain credits towards your study:

Work skills and knowledge

Paid or unpaid work experience

Life experience

Community work experience

Previous study

How can RPL benefit me?

Reduce the duration of your qualification

Reduce your study fees

Gain credits towards a university degree

Improve career opportunities whether you’re looking for a career change or promotion

Support your professional development

What is the process for being
assessed for RPL?

STEP 1

RPL ASSESSMENT

jump on a quick call with your student mentor to discuss your knowledge and experience, and how that may reduce your study time.

STEP 2

EMPLOYER CONFIRMATION

our Educators will contact your employer or supervisor to verify your skills and knowledge. Providing they are verified, you’ll receive a letter of offer outlining which units will be completed through RPL and which units you will need to study

STEP 3

COMPETENCY CONVERSATION

your Educator will call you for a more in-depth conversation regarding your experience and knowledge in your job role.

STEP 4

WRAPPING IT UP

your Educator will review and gather evidence to support your RPL application and provide you with confirmation of your competencies.
