What can I expect?

The Individual Support – Disability skill set is perfect for those already working within a community care or aged care role that desires to further their education in supporting people with disability.

You will discover how to contribute to ongoing skills development by allowing the person in your care to make their own life choices.  Working with each person’s unique strengths to build their self-confidence, understand and apply individual plans into activities, and encourage them to be active and participate in the community, focusing on social inclusion and health and well-being.

The Individual Support Disability Skill Set is for you if:

  • null
    You want to support the empowerment of people with disability

    You already work in community services and want to advance your career with specialised skills that support the care of people with disability
  • null
    You want to develop your existing skills and knowledge, especially with person-centred behavioural support, to minimise behaviours of concern, positively affecting the day to day life of people with disability.

Entry requirements

Students are required to:

Students are required to have the following:

  • hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field

OR

  • have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process.

Funding requirements

Students must be a New or Existing Worker in the Community Services and Health Industry in a role involving the provision of direct client care or support.  Students must already hold a Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent).

Workplace practical requirements

Students may be required to undertake practical workplace tasks in an approved workplace/environment to complete this skill set qualification. This will be discussed with your Educator or CA Mentor.

Higher Level Skills Funding via the Queensland Government’s Skills Assure Program supports ELIGIBLE* students to obtain certification in Certificate IV or higher qualifications. The aim is to assist individuals in gaining the higher-level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in priority industries or transition to university to continue their studies. Students will be required to make a co-contribution fee (listed above) before the commencement of their course. Enrol

Apply for the course you want with College Australia by completing the quick and easy online Enrolment Form.

Click on the link below and choose the relevant qualification.

When we receive your application, we will send you an email regarding the pre-enrolment eligibility requirements, including a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment, Recognition of Prior Learning application and an outline of documentation required for your enrolment to proceed.

Meet your mentor

We will call you to confirm details, discuss eligibility, workplace and assessment requirements and ensure everything is correct.

This interview forms part of your orientation into your course and will allow you to ask further questions.

You will then be required to make payment.

Once payment is received, we will then send you the Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). This Includes details of your Educator and your Training Plan outlining the units you are undertaking and due dates.

Commence your studies

You will receive an email with your login details. Remember these details and bookmark the login URL in your browser. Logging in will give you access to your first unit in the online portal.

Start on your first unit.

RPL students

Your Educator will contact you to progress the RPL process if you are undertaking this pathway.
